A few elk on the edge our town too
« on: September 18, 2016, 09:13:04 pm »
Here's a pic of the bull. There is a cow and a yearling too but were in the brush out of site.

Now we whistled a few times and here he came across the pond.

All the way up to within 30 feet of us

The old wapati...People occasionally feed these elk apples etc.I think. They are in a 30 acre fenced in area on the edge of our town here.

Man that is a beauty! I am curious about the tag in the ear though. Do you know anything about it?

Nice photos Ed. Thats a heck of a nice bull elk, wouldn't mind having a crack at one like that if I ever am able to do another elk hunt one day. By the way who gets his shed antlers each year?
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.

Nice pictures Ed, looks like some pretty nice habitat. Funny when I think of Iowa I think all crop land. Must be a nice mix in your area? Do you have a hunting population or are they Ranch Elk? Thanks for posting the pictures

PS. It is hard to comprehend the size. My brother has been out west 3 times has 2 real nice mounts I have no idea where he's going to put the 2nd one they take up a lot of room. My uncle went and got one had to take ceiling out of his office and raise it way up. When my brothers wife picked up his 1st mount she pull into garage and it hit the door lucky she didn't wreck it. Beautiful animals can't imagine carrying around that head gear let alone walking through forest with it.
