Workhorses!
« on: March 10, 2016, 04:36:47 pm »
I'm fairly new to the selfbow game but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate that one bow that always gets the nod for hunting. That one bow that really isn't flashy or super fast but always ends up getting it's picture taken next to a big whitetail or elk. I especially love to see those bows that really weren't meant to be "the one". Those bows that might have been a lost cause or just plain ugly that ended up with thousands of shots and never let you down when game gets close. Those bows that have spent their lives in the trenches not on display.
Let's see your workhorses!

My old horrible is this take-down.
Yew longbow, horn overlay, abalone strike plate and rawhide backed.
Shoots about as true as the come. It's got more than its fair share of dents and scratches and even some crusted on blood, which makes me love it all the more:) 🏹

Here is mine.  Plain osage with TB3 rubbed on over shellac for a dull finish.

I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

I have a bow just as you describe. Many told me this bow wouldnt last when I first posted it because of a few significant checks running down the limb. It has now killed 5 deer and still shoots like a dream.

rps3, That look on your face is what it's all about.

My work horse looks similar.
