Broke an arrow, but...

Was that from the shot? I assume you are using a horn bow seeing the thumb ring. You might need carved wood self nocksw instead of cutting a self nock into the cane. Did you wrap just below the nock?

Yeah, that's the arrow that was in the target that I Robin Hood'ed, lol. In the picture that is the wrap behind the fletching, the self-nock had a wrapping too, HAD....lol. There's a nice little field point shaped cone in the hole there, lol.

I'm glad it didn't blow when you shot it.   I've ruined 2 self nocked arrows like that over the years. Not quite as centered as yours but with equally devastating results. Nice shooting...I guess.

If it had not been wrapped and it was straight grained, you would have had a true Robin Hood, I'll bet.

Thanks Pat, lol. Chief, it's bamboo so if it had not been wrapped it most likely would have continued that split pattern that's whats left of the nock and split into four or five pieces, now that would have been a sight, lol.

My first thought was "yeah, great idea" but then I realized, to what end? I mean, tonkin is tough but what does this shot really prove, if not for the wrap behind the fletching I'm sure this thing would have split like a banana. Does it show it's tough that the arrow in the target didn't break from the impact, that the arrow that hit and bounced off took no damage? I mean I suppose it does say something that the the wrap stopped the arrow dead after only an inch or so and neither arrow exploded, but of course I already knew that because I've bounced these arrows off of solid metal plates (by accident, lol) with my bow that's 50#@28" drawn to 33" and done no more than flatten the point.

That makes it tough. lots of arrows will blow up when striking a metal plate dead on.
