Side nock ?s

I have never used side nocks before. I understand that you cut them on opposite sides so the string bisects the bow. But how deep do you cut them? Just enough to hold the string? To center line? Any tips or thoughts on side nocks? Thanks

I've only done them on a couple bows, and they were more of a pin nock style.
I only side nocked the top limb, and it was mostly to get the string aligned better without heat.
I went pretty close to centre on this one

Here are a few I've done. These tips are about 3/4" wide...

Black locust. Black locust everywhere.
Mollegabets all day long.
Might as well make them short, save some wood to keep warm.
