Hide tanning help (fur on)
« on: January 05, 2015, 07:43:41 am »
I have a very nice large coyote pelt that I would like to make a quiver out of.  Problem is, I have no experience with tanning hides.  Can anyone give me some instruction?

Look at Van Dykes Taxidermy website and look for the tanning kits they offer. Everything in the kit you will need and not real expensive. Good Luck

Tannit tanning solution is cheap and SUPER easy Greg. All you do is wipe it on and let it hang dry as long as needed. Once the tacky feeling is gone your good to go. It is a chemical tan. One $20 bottle will do at least 2-3 deer hides.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

Greg,
Tandy Leather has some chemical tanning solution for I think $30 that will do about 2 deer hides.  There is one here in Louisville that I can stop by and get some, be able to give it to you at Moontree if your interested???

Thanks for the replies guys.  Dbar- I may take you up on that if I haven't resolved it by then.  I am leaning toward a Van Dyke's kit offered by Cabelas.  It has a lot of great reviews.

Greg, Send your coyote to Moyle tannery, $23 plus shipping for a garment tanned yote that will be dead soft and last a life time. I have always recieved my own furs back and they do an outstanding job. Just my .02 worth. Bob
