Tracy some always do that around here,wind or worse when it is really dry,usually always plenty left on the tree to mature but see them do that almost every year so i wouldn't think you have anything to worry about. I love hunting them,especially the ones that fall in the early fall.
almost as good as White Oak. The ones that hang on untill late winter don't seem to attract much except Coons/killed my first Coyote with a bow eating them in late winter also.
