Turkey ????
« on: May 05, 2014, 11:10:24 pm »
I have finally harvested my first Turkey ever and I am wondering if using the beard to decorate a possible bag is a good or bad Idea? ??? I have not made the bag yet but am going on a family muzzleloader hunt this fall for bucks and after playing around with this new to me muzzleloader idea I've decided I need to make one because I have no big medicine in this sport. >:D Any opinions welcome and appreciated. I'm thinking maybe a small Deer antler button for a closure and the beard mounted either under the button or in a tip hanging just below the button. Thanks Hugh

I think the beard would make a great addition to your new possibles bag when you make it. Hopefully you can add to the medicine on your family deer hunt.

Thanks Pat I'll plan it then. I been shoot'n my new shoot'n iron quite a bit and it shoots great better than I expected. But I feel kinda naked in the woods and unconnected with out my bow. Figured maybe some home made JoJo type medicine would make it feel a little more personal this fall.

Also making an Elk tine powder horn I've got a store bought mottle but using it is kinda like driving a Kia when there's a GTO in the garage. Just aint the same. ;)

I hang them from my summer time basket quiver, looks pretty slick.

Just don't make the rest of the bag look like a turkey and then carry it with you in turkey season ;)

Traditional muzzle loading is as addictive as primitive archery to me! Make all your accutroments that you can, it will truly enrich the experience. Brain tan a bag, make a patch knife, horn powder measures, melt your own balls, etc.etc. A turkey beard with a large deer button and copper or brass cone make a great shooting bag flap weight!

PD thanks durability was my concern I think you just answered that 8)

Lost arrow ;D sad though some folks may not think that far ahead :o

Wildman that is a fear I have I barely keep myself in arrows now and if this comes to that I may change my name to he who has weapon no shoot...... and melting your balls don't that hurt? >:D

The beard will do just fine until the first dog comes along.  Trust me on this, I do not exaggerate at all, dogs cannot resist themselves around turkey beards!  It's a crack cocaine to them!
