Little Teaser on another Hickory Bow....
« on: April 10, 2014, 11:36:01 pm »
...I am Making. Going to be hunting all over the place this year and decided to make 2 more bows to make sure I have one ready to go if I loose or break one. Kinda Like the first Hickory bow I made minus real snake skin. Found some almost matching cloth ones. Benefit of this so far is the next bow does not smell like a reptile...Purple Heart Tips on this and the next one. Still working out the face piece. Will post more and specs when it is 100% Complete....Top and Then Bottom Tips. Gorilla Super glue to secure and then shaped with a rasp and sand paper. Slots added with file. Not My best work, but the first tip overlays I have tried...Enjoy.

I like it, looks good to me! One question though, how did you get both tips in the same picture!  >:D

Building a bow has been the most rewarding, peaceful, and frustrating things I have ever made with my own two hands!

Actually 2 pictures. Used my photobucket to link one on top of the other. You can see the line in the center of them

I figured they were two pics, just giving you a hard time. I use my cell to check and read post here on PA.  I still like the tips!

I was thinking that bow must have some serious string alignment issues...... ;)
Next time you do some overlays try making them 2 inches long, then you'll be able to blend them into the limb better.

That's sure is looking great I love the color of the tips.  Is that a cloth backing?

Matt,
Yes. It is cloth backing. The first bow I made had natural snake skin. It must have been past prime as the bow stinks to high heaven. I found a close match to it and it is a heavier cotton fabric. Goes on real smooth with TBII and takes the poly real well...I have some extra if anyone might need a piece or two....

I decided to go with the cloth backing as I feel it will hold up better in inclement weather, as I will be hunting Siberia and The Northwest Territories this year. Also Oregon. Wasn't sure how the natural skin would hold up to weather fluctuations, and I have a feeling the cloth will take the extremes much better....
