help for a newbie

hi all
I'm new to bow-making, so far just been reading books, gathering tools, listening to friends, and poking around on here. My father-in-law got excited that i'm taking an interest in woodworking (a hobby of his), and got his buddy (who is not a bowyer) to send me some osage. So now I have it but i'm not sure if it's any good or not. So I'm including some pics, tell me what you think.

How about a pic of the vertical/lengthwise grain? Art

You could make a backed bow with those. What are their dimensions?

Hey Elzza. because these are sawn lumber they will be best used to make a backed bow. The osage will make a great belly wood and can be backed with something like bamboo or hickory. You'll need access to some power tools to pull that off but I'm sure there are some people here in the Rose City Bowyers that can help you out with that. ok. next step tracking down something to back them.

oh, and I found out the tree was cut down about 6 years ago, and cut into boards about a year ago.
