Is It Salvageable: Panic mode Adverted

So Allen and I have been working on a set of twin bows from the same stave. Today I had mine on the tree and saw this. It has pulled up around the knot in the center of the bow. There is still a ring or two left out  that were to be feathered in after tillering! Am I  wasting my time or is it salvageable.

I never would have started tillering that untill i had it to one ring. I would finish chasing the back and see what it looks like then.

I agree with turtle on getting it to one ring first. 

Is the handle going to bend in that area?

The handle does bend, as for the rings , on the large knot, the one ring is right at it and the second is just beyond the small knots beside the large one. Are you saying that the ring should be taken completely off of the knot. I normally leave the ring close and feather it out around the knot.

Ok, took the ring on off the knot and thats all it was. The excess ring lifting. Now to remove the other just past the pin knots

I like to chase a single ring around a knot.

Should I drill the knot and plug it for longer life?

If the knot is solid i would leave it alone. If it is punky i would dig it out and either leave it as a hole or fill it with super glue and sawdust. Looks like you have enough extra width around the knot to be safe as a hole.

only if it appears to be punky or crumbly. If the knot seems sound it should be fine. Just remember all those bows with knotholes big enough to stick your fist through and that should make you feel more confident.

    When I started out I'd leave exture wood (rings) around big knots. You rally don't have to. I the wood inside the knot is a soft. I drill the center out.  I see no rason not to go ahead and finish.
