Aboriginal made bow and arrow set?
« on: April 19, 2013, 02:25:37 am »
So, I have the desire to start a build along on here. I have been looking ALL over the internet and cant find any resources for making a bow from start to finish with just stone age tools(arrows too!) So, i thought to myself, if there is nothing out there, maybe i will start a build along that could take the better part of a year or so to find and test my tools and cutting/curing the stave, then tillering, ect. so, has anything like this been done? Not really wanting to do this because i can do it successfully, but because i can try. I think it would be a very nice build along to have if i succeed, if not then i can try try again until i succeed.

seems like the bow was covered from stick to floor tiller. thanks for all the links, i saved them all. I would like to shift from modern tools to abo because it would help me slow down and focus more. its so easy to rush things with modern tools.

Abo tools will DEFINITELY make you slow down and treat every step with utmost care.  It's a whole other mentality.   :)

I'll try to see if I can find a complete abo bow tutorial...

thanks! yes thats what i want. i want to have to slow down to the point of taking each step as if it was a giant hurdle and not taking several hurdles all at once.

So i really liked the abo bow, ive watched your sinew string build along, looks great. The rawhide squirrel bowstring seems to be more up to par in terms of strength and the darned things are just about everywhere!! I've seen your arrowhead making tut. I liked your bone arrowhead tut as well. In general this seems to be up my alley lol.  ;D
