I usually just use a scraper,just be careful to only get the cambium,if the back is grooved a bit like a lot of Hickory you can leave a little in the groves or sand lightly if you want it all gone.

Guess I will place a order to 3 rivers for some snake skins for next weekend. I have seen a few of your bows w snake skin and they are pretty as well as a nice camo pattern.
