Knife Handle Finished
« on: March 27, 2013, 02:05:32 pm »
We had a "private" cub scout den archery day a couple of weeks ago, I supplied bows and tackle and brought some stone points and primitives.  One of the Dads asked me if I put handles on knives.  The next scout meeting he brought a set of antlers and the blade, said I could keep what I didn't use.  His Grandpa's buddy gave it to him and he had used it until the handle broke, came unglued it appeard.  Here it is, antler handle, osage pommel, brazing rod pins all glued to gether with PC7.  Sealed with a version of Bubby's special mineral oil/beeswax sealer.  ;) I hope he likes it, cause this one ain't comin apart w/o some work.  I ended up edge dyeing and sealing the sheath and doing a repair stiched with back sinew.  Thanks for lookin, dpgratz

p.s.  This is my third attempt, I didn't have my camera set up for these small photos while I did the ~~build along.  I had to go out and take new pics.

Thanks for the replys guys!  Bubby, I said it was a version of your mix, It was still pretty firm, but the wood stove helped with that.  OO, I'm giving it to him on Monday @ scouts.  I hope he does.  Have a grat one guys, dpg

Man Derik where's the deer to butcher, you're ready! Very nice knife. Looks like a real good boning blade to me.
