Hickory shavings are great for smoking meat. Ipe is a good potting soiled amendment to increase moisture retention. Oak is great to add to tomato beds and pepper pots, it acidifies the soiled as it decays.

Always have a zip-loc in My pack of Osage shaving for starter. Also have a bag of Yew shavings I'm going add from My current project. Bob

Friends and neighbours lucky enough to have fires at home take all mine. I just box them up and they go quicker than I can make them.

Burn um in the camp fire I always have going. Save a few for my fire starting kit but that don't take many.
