Garage Full
« on: January 23, 2013, 03:30:47 pm »
Hey ive been harvesting a lot of wood lately, like Osage, hackberry, and ERC elm.  I am running out of room in garage.  I know that I have to leave the white woods in the garage, but what about new Osage?  Can I build a roof only shelter and put them under?  If I do build a shelter outside does it need walls?  I live in Texas College Station. How do yall store yall's Osage?

I didn't see anything in TBB 1-4.  That's why I asked   Thanks

A roof only is OK but be sure the osage is off the ground and be sure you spray it for bugs. If it is in log form at least split it in half and seal the ends. You could store it under a tarp if it is off the ground and gets air circulation.

I could store some sage for you, providing it is nice and straight, and has good rings.  >:D

I'm not taking any chances with bugs or weather.  I split, debark, and seal all my wood.  I keep most of it in a roll away storage rack under my work bench.  The rest I stash in different places in the garage and corners of the workshop.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

That is going to be a summer project for me.  I'm going to make some long term storage. Apparently I'm moot just a bowyer, I'm also a stave collecter.  :o.
