I'm sorry to hear that pearly  :'(.  I have a couple yew staves to work on that I don't mind saying, have me quite intimidated.  Everytime I get the nerve up to start working on them, something like this gets posted.   I'm sure glad I have other woods to use.  I'm starting to get the idea that yew isn't a whole lot better than erc.  I sure hope I'm wrong about that.  Josh

Chickenhawk and Brycey boy you guys may be right? It may have been operator error of some sort. I have come to the conclusion that if I have to pussy foot around and take extra care in every little thing I do, its not the wood for me. Bryce I am letting that stave cure out you so graciously gifted me, when its ready Im building a seven foot long 50# bow so I know it stays together, and so I can say I have a yew bow!


Josh, just keep enjoying your osage buddy! That yew will be fine right where it sits for a while.

That's something I would live to see you do a build along on ;)

Throw how you would normally shape osage and HHB out the window.
Using dry heat stay away from knots and pin holes, they WILL crack open if you get too close.

Yew is a cruel mistress. But once you get it dialed in there's no better shooter
IMO.
The lower elevation stuff is more brittle, but can still make a nice shooting bow.
