This is surprising...
« on: November 20, 2012, 07:03:08 pm »
So I've got a light-weight, pyramid-style, red oak board bow I backed with Knox gelatine hide glue and brown paper bag. When the first course dried, I discovered that one limb had been pulled slightly into reflex.  :o

Anyone else ever seen this with brown paper bag and hide glue?

The glue does shrink.

The hide glue alone can pull a bow into some reflex as it shrinks...and this is one of the reasons why hide glue is better to use with sinew than titebond ..(not trying to start a war..lol)

I guess when I thought of a backing causing reflex, I assumed it was only sinew doing that.

Can this actually add draw weight?
