Quickie red oak board bow
« on: March 11, 2012, 02:55:18 pm »
I made this over the Christmas holiday for a boss I had last summer.  He mused about buying a wooden bow one day. He's a great boss starting a family so I figured I could just give him a bow as a thank you for being fun to work for.  Everything was going great until I put a walnut coloured finish. All it did was make the pores and tool marks pop out. I think I'll make him another...

Made from a rift sawn board, she's 67" nock to nock, 1.5" wide at the fades and 25lbs at 28" of draw.  Tillered a little whippy for a little smoother shooting, has an inch of set. Handle riser is maple wrapped with thick jute, arrow rest is hammered copper.

I like the stain look. I think anyone would be happy with that.
Bowmakers are a little bent, but knappers are just plain flaky.

Yeah, so it is a little whippy, but like you said it was done on purpose for smoother shooting.  Nothing wrong with that.  No hinges or other issues that would doom this bow to an early death (I've made enough of those to recognize them quickly).  Long live a good shooter!

And the choice in art behind you is wonderful.  Lascoux Cave, right?
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

With some light target arrows,I'm thinking that bow would be a pleasure to shoot.I think it looks great.  '  Frank

Another good one!!
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
