Take Down

I've got a couple nice osage billets over at nuggets house, we've been talking about making a take down out of them. I've always wanted a bow i could throw in my quiver along with my arrows , to hike deep in the mnts with.  does anyone have any pics of take down self bows ? id like to get some ideas. thanks boo

There is an Osage take down build along on the build along thread.I buit one last year.I used sleves from 3 rivers.

That's a great way to utilize a couple of billets. Pappy's bow really shoots well and being a takedown makes it a great travel partner!

those are some great examples, hope mine come out that good.  ill read those threads pappy thanks, 

is there any such thing as a primitive take down?  or is the takedown more of a traditional bow thing? id like to see some more primitive examples but if there isnt any ill get the three rivers system thanks, boo

Bobby, in one of the older back issues of PA there was an article about a "primitive" take down. Seems the builder cut the handle area at a long bevel(complete 4" handle)added 2 dowels to one side and accompanying holes in the other half and used an extra bow string to wrap the handle joint together. I believe the bowyers of Bhutan build their bows this way also.

that sounds pretty neat pat , thanks . I wonder which way you would want the cut? im guessing you would want the top limb to be the longest for the back of the bow?
