May have opened up a sinew supply line.
« on: February 27, 2012, 01:55:07 pm »
So I have always been curious about sinew, but I have avoided it mainly because I knew I couldn't get a steady supply to experiment with. But my father in law is friends with a bunch of the rangers in my area, and they take in all the deer roadkill. He thinks he can probably get them to salvage the leg sinew for us. If I'm lucky I could be up to my ears in sinew shortly. Crossing my fingers!

The fun has just begun my friend.  The challenge with sinew is only 50% finding it, the other 50% is processing it and it is work plain and simple.  I hope it works out for you.  Sinew can really influence your choice of bow styles.

That's true. I'd love to have a real short recurved hunting bow, but without sinew backing, I just don't trust a short piece of wood to put up with the strain it gets put under at a heavy weight and full draw.

Show them how to cut them through the knee on the hind legs and you will get much longer pieces.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left
