Meare Heathe Bow
« on: February 04, 2012, 04:18:10 pm »

The bow has been shot around 100 times now and shows no string set.

I need some expert eyes and opinions on my tiller.  This bow is 66" and pulled to a round 28" on the tree.

I think you need more bend closer to the handle.
Bowmakers are a little bent, but knappers are just plain flaky.

+1.
The inner 1/3rd of each limb isn't flexing.
I'd have thought the meare heath bow would be a more arc of a circle tiller with possibly some flex in the handle.

no set? Nice bow.

What did you use to get the bark off in the winter time?

Also is that an arrow shelf cut into the handle??

Hey dictionary I used a draw knife and a scraper to remove the bark. once I got to the brown layer I used a scraper it takers about 30 mins new to bow making learning as I go. I did cut an arrow rest in the handle not sure its correct for this style of bow.

Eric, you can always remove wood from the sides to get the inner limbs bending. You have plenty of width anyway. You should loose less weight that way and still get some more bending.
