Has anyone lumberized vinemaple for backings, or laminate bows???? Ithink I am going to try both really soon.... :)

never tried, I'd be interested to see your results. I'm anticipating some squirrely lumber.  >:D

weylin,

If you let vinemaple dry in log form, it does not tend to get too wild....I will let you know the results.

I don't live anywhere near close enough to the coast to fiddle with VM very much. Snagged a couple of pieces on trips to visit friends...anyone mess with madrone much? I'd be curious about both bow wood and guitar sets....

Madrone is a very hard dense wood, you can make a bow from it, but it just doesn't seem to be preferred by most. If I remember right it can be brittle on the back. As far as music wood....I have cut lots, but not in madrone mostly figured maples...

Got home and found the staves you sent me to try Brian. Wow! Is the RD/DF Hickory backed Cascara? Also the glued up billets, Vinemaple? And I know what yew staves look like ;D. I'm looking forward to playing with that RD/DF :).

 Thanks, Buddy.

Mullet,

All hickory R/D maple handle, vine maple billets maple handle, and the yew. Cascara is on my list of R/D....going to use either white oak backing, and kicking around using vine maple for a backing as well.
