New archer
« on: March 21, 2011, 12:19:56 pm »
Hey all
I am completely new to the whole practical side of archery and I would love some pointers for making my own bow.  I have been looking at all the build alongs and a few of the guides so I think I know kinda what I'm doing... I really want to make a Sarissan style reflex bow similar to what Robin Hood uses in the BBC series, but I'm pretty sure I have a very limited access to horn and sinew.

Cheers

Welcome, You will find allot of good help from some of the worlds first bowyers on the site.  I would advise to start out with a less complicated bow and develop your skills a little before diving in on a horn composite bow. They can be very involved and time consuming and it might be a frustrating first experience.  Also get and read the Bowyers Bible volume 1 at least before you start in. This will give some solid base info for tillering and wood grain orientation. Hope that helps and looking forward to watching your journey.

Addictive? Really? I don't even own a piece of suitable wood and I'm already hooked.
