Found this rock in the Colorado river. It was pretty tough stuff but I made a preform out of it, then heated it. The color didn't change much. But I was really able to thin it after that.

Ya got to break a few to get there. It took me a while to learn that. But one day I decided good enough wasn't good enough. It's tough but it works.

I know what you mean Iowa.  I have one of Towers points and they are thin, Very nicely worked.

ive been doing this for about three years now
ive recently figured out the thinning thing
not htat i get all my styff as thin as i would like them
but it takes time
i do my best thinning with antlers

Haven't used antler in a while. I like to thin with an Ishi stick. Percussion with a copper bopper 1".

I started putting pencil lines on the stone so I can see how far the flakes travel. In this way I can tell what works and what does not work.  When I made that pine tree I was able to do to passes that traveled 3/4 of the way across the point.  I was real happy to do that.  The thing is that sometimes I have the flakes digging in on the edge so am I pulling to the side too hard or pushing too hard.  Maybe this can't be explained only learned but if there is an easy way to explain it I would like to hear it.  Thank you

Iowabow, I don't know if my technique can help or hurt. On my final pass with the Ishi stick or any pressure flaker I hold it at about a 30 deg. angle to the point. I only apply enough pressure to detach the intended flake. That is I allow the flake to detach on it own. I've heard some people talk of applying pressure & then tweaking the flaker, snapping the flaker to detach the intended flake. For me that leaves a bulb on the edge that can screw up  a point. I hope this helps you.
