tiller check on a shorty
« on: February 21, 2011, 03:28:47 pm »
Hi all. So Rich (half eye) was king enough to send me a roughed out stick of red elm to work on so I could learn how to make a short bow. This one is 51"tip-tip. Haven't scaled it yet, feels about 50#. I would like some input before I try to take any farther. In the pic it's pulled back to 19" I would like to get it back to about 25". What do  you all think? Thanks for the advise. :)

Looks to me it might be bending a little to much at the handle, maybe get it bending more outer 2/3 of the limbs, good luck, those little bows are fun to build and shoot.

Looks nice, I'd say maybe a little more off the area around the handle on the left?  I don't know what do you guys all think?

Mid limb, especially on the left, appears a little stiff. Maybe take a little off about half to two thirds the way from center could do it some good. Not a bad tiller though, really.

I agree with John, a little to much bend in the handle. Once you get it tillered a little more take some mass of the tips, it will slightly reduce hand shock. Good luck!
