Tree id help?
« on: February 08, 2011, 07:02:19 pm »
Tryin to figure out what kind of tree this is. I cut it thinkin it was hophornbeam but I figured out that it wasnt. Some have told me mulberry but to me the bark just doesnt look like any mulberry I've seen. Osage stave is sittin on top of it for comparison.

The splits on the bottom with the bark showin are from the same tree. Osage piece on the top right.

Heres a twig from that came out of the top of the tree.

Kentucky coffee tree would be my guess. Were there any pods--like locust--around the base?

I didnt see any pods on the ground or on this tree but there were some trees close to it that had pods hangin on them. I just figured they were locust trees of some kind. I'll go back and see if I can figure out what they are.

Maybe Elm ?
Cut that twig on a high angle and put it in a glass of water on the window ledge it it should leave out ,then you may get a better clue .
