smelting copper?

Wikipedia says copper won't melt till about 2000 degrees...anyone know how to reach that temp without a whole lot of electricity?  I pulled the motor out of a crapped out dryer the other day and thought I might try to smelt my own copper bopper...Call me crazy?  Or can it be done in a backyard?  Any ideas?  thanks, Paul C

You can do it with a oxy/acetylene torch,I have done that several times. The key is to keep it all hot and let it cool all at ones or you will have layers in the copper.  :)

It should get plenty hot having a crucible to stand the heat may be the trick.Ron

Go to lowes or home depot in the plumbing dept. and get some copper stub outs and fill them with lead they have them from 1/2 to 3/4" i made two that works great.
