John B's bow.
« on: October 12, 2009, 05:54:48 pm »
Here's one a gave my buddy visiting this weekend.  This is the original link that I posted:  http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,14167.0.html

Turned out nicely, I think.  66" long 'bout 60#@27".  Beet root stained and my best handle wrap, yet.  Some Colombian clay beads and a bone turtle to tie it off.   A few arrows to get him started.  He really enjoyed shooting up an old box but found the importance of needing an armgaurd!  Good Times!

Thanks for lookin.

Nice, I really like the profile of that one.

Thanks guys - I couldn't honestly call this a Holmegaard.  It is, I think, a flatbow - with Holmegaard like lever tips.  Those levers are only 6 inches with another two for the fades, not so far from the design of a flatbow, really.  The tiller is definitely more like a flatbow.  I like this design, it definitely reduces tip mass but is practical and uncomplicated to make.  It's a zippy shooter too.  The length and design did well with hickory and heat treating.  I'd shot this bow probably 200 times before finishing it and giving it to him.  It took some follow, but less than an inch after resting.  A healthy bow with low vibration and no draw noise.  Appreciate the support.   ;) :)
