How to Hold and Shoot a Plains Bow?

That I would like to know How the natives protected there wrist or hand from injury from the string slap from a plains bows low Brace.

They fired from horse back right??  Well if so, straddle your couch and try drawing without hitting anything that would represent a moving horse.  Maybe that will give you an idea how they were held.  Or jst make yourself a nice thick leather braclet ;D

Plains people,used a bracer as well.It was smaller than most use today.The big Silver Concho bracelets that are known from the southwest cultures,actually originated as a bracer for archery.

Here is my wrist after a dozen shots with just my shirt sleeve for protection.
The bow pulls 40-45lb and the brace height is 3-1/2"



As you can see, there really isn't much "injury".  I believe Plains Indians wore a simple bracer, long sleeve shirt, or went without.
