Horse Hair Wind Indicator?

You know, I've seen the plains bows with the horse hair tuft on the top limb and my first thought was, "what a great way to see which way the wind is blowing".....can anyone confirm if that was the intent of that tuft?  I can't seem to find any reference to the tufts, other than as decoration, but I just have to believe it had a practical purpose too.  (I may have been looking in the wrong spot)

they did that so whne they werent hunting they could sweep out the hut ;D

Think you got it right.  What often looks like "art" often had literal and visual cultural uses.  Will speak with my Creek friend to double check when I next get up with him...he is a flute player, historian, and story teller archer who will know.
