burned juniper

o.k. we have seen keenans juniper bow from a dead sapling tree..i was wondering if a burned standing tree would work all so...there is some areas around here in prineville that have burned juniper trees.and areas look like the fire burned fast throught them...so,what do you think...john

 Only thing I would be carefull of is it being to dry and brittle. Dave and I have found that fire killed yew to be excellent if not to close to the hot areas but brittle if cooked to much. Heck give it a try and see.  The standing dead that I used still had the bark on it.  Good luck John, keep us posted if you try it.

hey,is there away to tell if a wood is too brittle for bow making before getting to far into a bow or stave.john

If nothing else, throw it in a creek for a few days.

 John, Just bend it and if it breaks it's to brittle    On a serious note I will always try bend test with some of the trim off materials.
