Red Elm is good Bow Wood...I have had no trouble with any Elm I have used....and Black Locust will not Frett if it is designed and tillered correctly either....you just have to take it slow and do a good Job on the Tiller...no Hinges or stressed spots at all...

Elm is awesome bow wood... very strong in tension, so it also excels as a backing wood.

Red elm and black locust are both excellent bow woods.
