Just another osage bow
« on: July 18, 2008, 01:35:47 pm »
Here is another osage bow I recently made.  I know people get tired of seeing them, but I never get tired of splitting, chasing, draw-knifing, rasping, tillering, and smoothing.  There is just something about this wood. . . Anyway, 66" ntn, 56# at 28", purple heart overlalys, 1 3/4" wide, 1/2" tips.  Shoots smooth and fast.  This was a very pretty piece of wood--no knots and very smooth.  I had the stave for sale for $100 and nobody would buy it, so I just made two bows from it.  This is "Fake Snake II's" brother.

Nice job Dan. I like "just another osage bow". My favorite kind.  ;)  Straight and no knots? Are you sure it is osage? ;D     Pat

I never get tired of seeing an Osage bow done with that kind of craftsmanship.  That is just beautiful.

Thanks, guys.  Yep, Pat, it is osage.  I think they call it Puritan osage--because it is so straight.  Just kidding.  It was an unusuall fine piece of wood.
