when i cut my big board into the 1 possibly bow worthy board i noticed a crack. i hoped it wouldnt go in very far but it does. The widest i can make this bow is 1" wide. Can i make a safe 55# bow from this? it will be backed with hickory with 3 1/2" of reflex glued in.
after i take it off the form it will probably go tp 2 1/2" of reflex.
i hate to waste this board can i do anything with it? i have one other 60" board that is normal width. CAn i make a stiff handled 60" bow that has a 26" draw?

dave, i recently made a bbo which tapered from 1 inch to 1/2 " (62" overall) and the thing pulls 70#!!! I think 55 is doable with your puny little hickory backing strip!
Yeah, man, and have fun with it, okay!

They used to make target yew bows 72" long, 1" wide at the handle, and 40-50#. Osage, backed with hickory, and pulled into a reflex should easily pull 55#. Have fun tillering it though
