What a trip
« on: January 18, 2022, 08:41:45 am »
Wife and I camped in N Fl this weekend and I was just amazed at how much knappable rock I came across.  Seems like everywhere I looked it was around.  State parks building walls and amphitheater steps around the springs using giant chunks of often high quality chert, to it lining the banks of the rivers and finding workable chunks in drainage ditches.  Never seen so much working rock just scattered around.  Came home with a bunch of stuff that I didn’t expect!  Time to get back to breaking some rock, for sure. What a great trip!

Florida springs are beautiful...the staff from work is headed down this coming weekend to swim with the manatees in Crystal River...I never noticed rock when I did the trips but then I wasn't as much an addict as I am now :-)  Maybe I should go on the trip this time and look for rocks...Paul

Almost every bit of it high grade coral. Lots of color when heated. You'll have to heat that coral a little hotter than the rock we got out of the Alafia.

I see.  Yeah, we will talk it up Eddie.  I’ll be looking to spall it out and use that kiln.  We’ll talk…
