Looky what I got in the mail

After seeing my post about sinew backing my old locust bow few weeks ago a TradGang member "BueMaker" from Norway sent me a PM  asking if I'd like to try some Norwegian moose sinew. Of course I said yes and a few days ago I got a tube in the mail from Bue. When I opened it I found 14 or so beautiful, clean moose sinews from about 12" in length to 14".

 I immediately started thinking about the bow I would build using this sinew. I even thought of the name for the bow, ELGBUE, Norwegian for moose bow.
 Now to come up with the right piece of wood and a good design. One thought is a 60" sinew backed mulberry static recurve. Maybe a similar design to the sinew backed osage static recurve I made a few years ago and gave to Pearlie.
I'm up to any thoughts or ideas anyone would like to offer and also looking for a nice, clean piece of Mulberry.

hey pat what dimension are you looking for in the mulberry stave? i have two pretty clean staves with a little side bend that i'm not doing anything with at the moment if you're interested.

My friend Will B gifted me with a  bag of moose sinew,and 3 staves to put the sinew on. Osage, Hickory, and Black Locust. Great friend. You made a good score.

i've been around, during the pandemic i picked up the unfortunate hobby of collecting and using vintage hand planes and now i have over a dozen of them

Man, I know that dilemma. I had over 1000 of them at one point. Now I seem to be searching for bows and arrows. We should have a hand plane for bow swap. It's all part of the game right?

I started stripping this sinew today. I've never stripper sinew before. All the sinew bows I've built were made with sinew that was sent to me already stripped. I realized a few things...stripping sinew isn't easy and especially with 70 year old arthritic hands. I used my cobbler's hammer on my leather working stump to pound the sinew to begin separating it and a pair of linesmen's pliers to help pull it apart.
