padding loops with D97?
« on: January 08, 2021, 01:31:28 pm »
I've been recommended to pad the loops of my D97 string with b50 but I don't have any. Can I just use the D97 I have? I'm not sure why it would make a difference...

I think you could do it with either. I was padding my loops with leftover b50 when I started using D97 but with most overlays it doesn’t mater. Even thick strings can dent the back of softer woods. For my lighter bows I’ve been using 10 strand strings and haven’t had any issues with “cutting” into the back so I stopped padding the loops.

No need to pad loops with a twisted string and reasonable strand count.

Thanks for the advice folks. I think I'll pad with the D97

I did it for years but also quit years ago, I shoot D-97 on al my selfbows, you don't need to pad the loops on a selfbow. I use 12 strand strings, never had a problem with my string breaking a nock.

Just use a few more stands because of the string diameter of D97 compared to to B50,B55. Wrap in 5 strands for each bundle. That is 18 strands for an 8 strand string, and 20 strands for a 10 strand string. I have tried that deal, and it works, but still like bone tip over lays with ff.
