We don't have any bugs to worry about around here it would seem cause I've never encountered any. As long as I store it in the garage I don't have to worry. But I'd trade bug free wood for some of that scenery that you have there any day...

Build a wooden box with screen sides on the small ends.
Fill the bottom with borax and sprinkle more over the staves.
This will keep big bugs out and kill the ones left.
Never tried it, but it sounds inexpensive and effective.

I'm interested in one of the solutions of roughing in a green bow and sealing it. Has anyone had any trouble with cracks with this method? With so green of wood and sealed all around, how does the moisture escape? ???

Greg, I usually just seal the back and ends and leave the belly unsealed.

Okay, so basically do the same as we've been doing with quarter logs...seal the back and ends, leaving the splits unsealed. ;)

Being this is my field of work now "Terminix" Borax, or Tim-bor is the ticket. Dilute in hot water 3- 4 cups to a gallon, and spray everything...should be good after that.

If you rough out a green bow, be sure to clamp it to a 4X6 so it won't warp.

and of course, seal the back and limb tips...as was previously mentioned
