My favorites for boo include vine maple, yew, African pear, and western serviceberry. Good luck and have fun.

I have used Armadrillo under bamboo and it is fine. I baught the armadrillo as  a terrace plank in the local lumber shop.
Also I have used wild service berry (Elsbeere / schweizer Birnbaum) and hornbeam (Hainbuche).

I thinke bamboo is perfect under bamboo and for short bows you don't need a core...

The majority of tropical woods tend to chrysal. Massaranduba is a good one but takes a long time to dry out. Also not very expensive as it is a poplular decking wood.

depending on the availibility in your area you could try Eucalyptus woods? there are thousands of species, but I know some aussie bowyers have good luck with boo backed spotted gum. Likewise I have heard very good things about Aussie cypress, Colin Gair of "outlaw Bows" reckons it equals yew.
