Taking apart an epoxied bow.

I've heard it mentioned that judiciously applied heat will soften epoxy. Has anyone here actually removed and reapplied a backing using a heat gun?
Just a hypothetical question of course

I haven’t heard anything about epoxy in regards to heat but that soaking it for hours in acetone is its solvent.

DC, I don't think it is a good idea using the hg - you need very high temp to soften the epoxi (burning the back or the belly is not avoidable). I have several times used the hg to tear off td sleeves for correcing the position, but here the heat got applied to the metal not to the wood.

So, I see two ways: Mechanically like cutting, splitting, ....
or using a microwave (big industrial ones)

beware that heated epoxy will produce nasty vapour
it is probably better to abrade it at ambient temperature
