Hackberry bow sneak peak at its progress
« on: June 05, 2018, 07:51:24 am »
Hello guys and gals. This is a hackberry bow i have been working on. It is 66 1/2" long. It is 42#@28" I finished the back in silk and did designs inspired by my tribe the Mi'kmaq. I did birch burl tip overlays. I toasted the belly and did six coats of truoil on it sanding with steel wool in between coats. The designs i painted on back are usually found on clothing and baskets from my people. I though they worked great on the back of a bow. It starts from 1 3/4" wide at fades and tapers to 3/8" wide at tips.

That‘s a beautiful bow! The designs could be 19th century European, too.  :)
Looking forward to see it braced and in full draw.
So you belong to the Mi‘kmaq?  That‘s really interesting! May I send you a PM with a question I have? I just don’t want to hijack your thread...

That's a very pretty bow. I like the little kink just to show it's real.

One of the most beautiful backs I've ever laid eyes on.  :)
