Californian bow, better picts
« on: May 02, 2018, 03:51:45 pm »
Here are some more pictures.  The arrow is 31.5" for comparison; likewise for comparison, the other bow, hickory stave, is 61 " tip to tip.  Allow me to brag, that 61" took my first primitive bow coues whitetail. That was a sit on my haunches close up shot, and I am hesitant to give up on medium length weapons from that and last year's experience.

These Ishsi type bows allow me to use boards but still get a shorter bend in handle design. That slight bend in the bow hand when full draw is reached remains both useful and a simple pleasure in my life.

An aside.  I am uncertain if the design or this particular board caused a tendency to heavy weight.  I simply found that scrapping a lot did not take much draw weight off.  I am now use to the 52 -55 pounds, but I am not flinging 50 a session.

Comments welcome.

Pretty nice, I was hoping you would post some more pics. Looks like you got quite a bit of bend out of those limbs, (the ishi is 55"?) considering the overall length and the small bend in the handle.

There we go! That's a nice set up. I like these native styles.

Nice bow!  Hope my hickory turns out that well.  Got most of the crisises out of the way, and it is raining today, so into the garage to work on the bow!
Life is far too serious to be taken that way!

Fantastic.  The bows are nice, but ANY Cous deer, esp with your own bow, is such a great achievement and experience.

Taxus,

I agree, 55" ttt is a bit long, but the his draw style cuts a few inches off draw length compared to our styles.  As well, that was a hickory board, and I never have good luck pushing boards too hard.
