My 10 year old dog is pregnant
« on: April 02, 2017, 01:27:05 am »
I have a blue healer/ mini aussie that recently became very friendly with my newest addition, a male of the same breed.   We had been keeping them apart, but my son let her outside while he was out as well, not knowing any better, and they tied. This will be her second litter. Her first was about 5 years ago. I am nervous because of her age. Anybody have any experience with this?

We always get our dogs fixed as soon as they are old enough. IMO, they make better pets that way.
Talk to your vet about it. He(or she) would have the best experience.

Tje vet saus we can abort tjem but die to blood loss and her age, that may be no good. We are leanimg towards going ahead with it. C section is an option if complications arise, but again, blood loss.

sleek....I've raised a littler or two from dogs 10 years or older.Usually not as big a litters but there are exceptions of course. If she's healthy active and happy things should go ok.You'll have to recall how her first whelping went.
Nothing more special done to her then usual.
My females always would let me in the whelping box while they had their pups because I hunted and handled them daily anyway.Always kept a little oxytocen around.Always watched to be sure the after birth exited then birthing is over.If labor goes into more then 12 hours I'd get her into the vet.Usually it should only take around a few hours.

Hope the pups don't look like you Del.lol.
Seriously I honestly don't know if we ever had a dog have pups at that age but usually if everything is healthy all goes well. Take her to the vet for checkup and best of luck. Sounds like your gonna have a house full.
