This one taught me some stuff

It dont look like much and it aint. But it taught me about thinning. Its about half its thickness right now. I still need to get better, if I could get my chips to decrease in angle and shoot further, complete across would be nice, id be happy.

Thinning to me is a lot about lowering and raising your working edge. I made a ton of beautiful thick round turtles with great flake scars b4 I got the hang of a edge being right to get a thinning flake. You r doing pretty good so far. Try using your more worthless flakes to get the hang of moving the edge. You can move it with a pressure flaker, a percussion method or even a abrader. I am a newbie learning but some of the pros will probably give us both some tips!

I Agree Sleek, one of the things that helped me most was just to save my good flakes and pickup the ones that where impossible to make anything out of. Then try some percussion, maybe even some inderict, some pressure and notching. Once and awhile you even end up making something out of nothing and you don't feel so bad making gravel. I'm still not the greatest at real long pressure flakes and notching. I agree it is important to move your centerline ( working edge)  closer to the side you want to take long flake from sometimes. This can be done by taking real short flakes from opposite side. Don't try to run them just move your center line closer to edge you want to take long flake from with real short flakes or even possibly abrader. Another thing is angle you hold or pressure flake from.  The higher angle you hold working side of piece the longer flake but to high and it won't  release or will make the dreaded step or hinge. You are learning my friend we can all see the improvements. Sometimes  the improvement come in leaps and bounds and sometimes it seems like you have to go backwards for awhile. Hang in there your gonna get it.
