Snake dinner
« on: August 16, 2016, 09:40:27 pm »
I was helping my Dad put some vinyl siding on his garage this evening.  We heard something squeaking in the weeds next to us.  We could tell it was a distress call from something small.  I spotted movement and got closer to investigate.  A small corn snake had picked off a field mouse.  I took a couple of pictures and backed off so it could finish its dinner.  I catch baby corn snakes at work and bring them home to let go in the edge of our yard.  I wonder if this could be one of them from last summer.

I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Doing nothing more than he was meant to do!  Awesome!

Nothing like a wiggly mouser. No litter box needed.
I like my black snakes. They used to lay their eggs
in the horse poop pile. No more horses. Maybe I should
buy some manure.
This guy slid across my deck and into the wood pile
the other day.

lol... I relocate alot of black snakes here.. Drives my wife crazy because they pick off some eggs or a baby chick now and then... But despite having a timber rattle snake den about 200 yards from the house, we've only had one in the yard (that we know about) in 17 years... Good trade IMO.

All dealing I've had with black snakes were fun...they're nasty critters.  They will even chase right after ya.  I was trying to do a favor to a good 5 footer one time...he had some fishing line wrapped around himself.  He fought me tooth n nail getting it off him.  By the time I was done I had a full black sleeve that didn't wanna let go!!
