New Hobbie! Maybe
« on: July 14, 2016, 04:50:21 pm »
To my surprise my Dad picked up this old Leather sewing machine today at a give away price. Free-bee. Needs a needle, foot, and leather belt. Already got it freed up with some WD-40  she is smooth and can't wait to see if I can make it work.

I used to work in shoe repair and I've spent countless hours on one very similar to that. Definitely will take some finesse get it dialed in but once you do you'll love it

Yeah, its called a "shoe tacker" I believe. The narrow arm for fitting inside a shoe for repairs. I have one very similar to that. When I had a leather shop in Savannah I put many miles on the one I still have. With the toe of your shoe at the top and the toe of the other at the bottom of the treadle you can get that baby going about 90 mph.  ;D
Adding a table would help support your work for neater stitching.

Very cool Paul.  I have a 1914 Singer model 66,  when it needed the leather belt replaced I upgraded it and used 1/4"  O-ring rubber for the new belt.  It worked very well, let me know if you need any, I can send some your way.

Nice  :)
Something real satisfying about leather work and something real satisfying about old machinery, 'specially at that price.
