Thorns, nuts, and fruit...

Ive heard it said before that any tree that has thorns, or bares nuts or fruit will make a good bow. i was just wondering what you guys' opinion on the thought was. just tryin to start a thought provoking disussion...

I've heard it said, that almost any fruit or nut tree will make a bow. But, of course, there are always exceptions...

This Boy here is defiantly no expert ,but I do know from this forum and the books you read you ,hear Oak, Hickory,Pecan, which bear nuts.Osage,which does bear a fruit never heard of apple being used ,I believe I have heard of cherry being used  Cedar which does bear berries . Locust has thorns so there may be something to it

there does seem to be a bit of truth to it... osage also has thorns. ok now is it something that the thorns/fruit/nuts require out of the tree that make it a viable bow wood, or is it just coincidence?

That is a good question I know that are ancestors were efficient gathers they wasted nothing all these woods,trees are common in that they are food sources and used in other ways, dye could be made from them,thorns could be used for sewing,Cedar in ceremonies  ect why not be efficient and get your bow would at same time .So we know it as good bow wood today
