I bet mine is bigger than yours

This won't be finished for a while, but this is the base of a trebuchet I'm building. 14.5' to the lever axle and when finished it will be 35' tall and have a 1000-2000lb counterweight

The neighbor kids have one almost exactly that size. It hasn't been used in years. Pretty cool contraption all the same.

That's cool.  I built one about 3 years ago with my students.  Lotta work.  What will you do for a trigger mechanism?

Haven't quite decided yet, but I've been thinking about (hard to describe) a rotating wheel that has two arms coming of it. One will have a slight curve which will fit through an eyelet on the arm and the other longer arm will have a pull string( might rig the end of the string to a board that can be hit with a sledge if it needs to be quicker)

Slip hook, I believe is the term for that sort of release.
Mine is waaay smaller than yours ::)
I made a miniature siege engine way back, had pictures with some pet gerbils 'manning' it... well 'Gerbilling' it I s'pose  :laugh:
Took some stop action pics in a darkened room with a flash linked to the arm of the engine... before digital cameras.
It shows the action of the sling lobbing a marble.
