I'm talking about the hook that goes over the string when you're tillering. Do any of you use a wide hook to more simulate a three-finger grip? It would also take some wear and tear off your tillering string.

That is what I use. I had some little squares of Oak left over from home building. I just cut a slot in one side and whittled the other side until it would fit in the brass snatch block (snap ring). I figured it couldn't hurt.
