Question about sealing a bow...

Well this will be my second go around at sealing this bow.  I used sharpie oil based paint markers to do the 'artwork' on the back of the bow.  I tried sealing the first round with a spray on lacquer and it ended up running on me.  I don't have pictures of it unfortunately.  How can I get this bow sealed up without the paint running.

I hung the first round  vertically...is it just a matter of painting it horizontally?  Thanks for any help in advance!!

If using arosol:Try applying very light, barely misting,coats over the bow. Allow each coat to dry somewhat and repeat...Usually 3-4 coats does the trick. Then seal as normal.. Hope this helps

were you using Lacquer because I haven't had lacquer make anything run, do like bill said even with lacquer light coats

The sharpie ink is probably carried with alcohol or other solvent so solvent based finishes will cause it to run. Tru-Oil might seal it or maybe water based poly. Do a test first to be sure.

Ajooter, I use a Sharpie oil-based paint pen to sign my bows and Tru-oil works great over it.  I agree with Pat too, water based poly should work very well.

I can't offer advice on this issue. But that paint job is fantastic!
I hope you get it sealed without any problems.

sharpie ink will run or just plain dissolve away if tru oil is put over it direct.  Seal with a light coat of water based (i use polycrylic) finish and then use the tru oil over that.
